About the handbook
The Polish Association of Lift Manufacturers (PALM / PSPD) presents the 2nd edition of Hydraulic Lifts by Eng. Rafał Jeżowski. The book combines theory with practical knowledge of the construction, operation, installation and maintenance of hydraulically driven lifts.
By publishing this handbook, PALM supports vocational training — especially for the lift technician profession — and continuing professional development across the industry.
Who it is for
- maintainers, installers and service staff,
- designers and technical teams in lift companies,
- students, apprentices and teachers of technical subjects — from newcomers to hydraulic drives to experienced practitioners.
From hydraulics basics to solutions
The handbook covers physical principles, hydraulic system design, oil properties, seals and connection techniques. It discusses pumps, electric motors, cylinders, valves, tanks and other assemblies, as well as control methods, frequency converters, drive efficiency, heat balance and energy use.
A substantial part describes hydraulic systems and valve blocks from Blain Hydraulics, GMV, Bucher Hydraulics, Hydroware, OmarLift and ALGI — with schematics, ride characteristics, and guidance on maintenance and protection against unintended car movement.
Further chapters cover kinematic diagrams, unusual designs, installation, applications and development trends, including hydraulic lifts in heritage buildings and comparison with electric MRL lifts. Appendices cover graphic symbols, the hydraulic lift in Varso Tower, and the history of the technology.
About the author
Eng. Rafał Jeżowski graduated from the Faculty of Working Machines and Vehicles at Warsaw University of Technology and completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Precision Mechanics and the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw.
From 1970 to 1989 he worked as a designer and head of design offices. He led the team that designed and launched production of the first hydraulic lifts assembled from Polish components. From 1989 to 1997 he held management roles in the lift industry; from 1998 to 2014 he was president of Sursum. He is the author of dozens of publications, technical opinions and expert reports.
